Grupo Cuevas and Grupo El Arco reach an agreement for the purchase of thirty stores

After several months of negotiation, Grupo Cuevas and Grupo El Arco have signed a framework agreement aimed at the acquisition of almost thirty stores and two of the platforms of the Asturian company. The purchase and sale operation that both groups have outlined would materialize with the completion of the financial restructuring process that Grupo El Arco has been carrying out in recent months.

Under this context, Grupo El Arco will continue to manage the entire company structure while Grupo Cuevas will act as supplier of all the products necessary for the development of the commercial activity of both the 17 El Economato establishments currently existing and the 12 ArcoPlaza stores that would enter the scope of action. Both food distributors have also agreed that, within the operation, the logistics platforms that Grupo El Arco has in Merccasturias, dedicated to the distribution of fruit and fish, and the delicatessen platform located in La Felguera would be included.

Jesús Rodríguez Ponce, CEO of Grupo El Arco, points out that “this agreement with Grupo Cuevas will combine synergies between two companies with the aim of offering products of the best quality and at the best price in an increasingly competitive sector and for a client who, in addition , values good service and personalized attention when purchasing in the fresh food sections. Maximum quality, good price and excellent service are the commitments we made and that will guide this new stage.”

For his part, Artur Yuste i Tarragó, general director of Grupo Cuevas, explains that “we want to continue playing a useful role in the field of food distribution and reinforce the confidence of those who choose us when making their daily purchase and deciding something. as important as what is consumed in a home. We have been doing it for 157 years and we work with the firm intention of continuing on that path in any of the territories in which we are present. It is our commitment.”

It is also stated in this initial signature that the distribution of all packaged and dry food products is carried out from the platform that Grupo Cuevas has in Roces (Gijón) and which is already providing service to other points of sale in the Principado de Asturias of the Cuevas Cash badge.
